Meet Kristen Moyer
Her Story
Kristen earned her BA in Political Science, with a minor in Religion from Syracuse University. She also studied International Relations at Schiller International University in London. Kristen then attended Villanova School of Law, earning her Juris Doctorate Degree in 1997. While in law school, Kristen met her husband, Tally, and after graduation, they moved to CA where she became a member of the State Bar of California.
Kristen began her career as in-house counsel at Sunkist Growers, an international agricultural cooperative with annual sales of over $1.5 billion. In Kristen’s role as Senior Counsel and Corporate Secretary, she managed a legal team of fourteen legal professionals. Kristen supervised a diverse patent and trademark portfolio, drafted corporate compliance guidelines, ran Board meetings, and drafted and negotiated all corporate contracts ranging from real estate to employment to antitrust. One key responsibility which is particularly relevant to her candidacy is that she was in charge of running a large scale retention program for all the company’s records dating back to its formation in the 1800s. She served as custodian of all corporate documents, contracts, leases, property, deeds, books, and archives. In 2008, the Moyer family moved to North Carolina and Kristen started a legal consulting business. She also runs a grassroots advocacy organization, North Carolina Voters for Animal Welfare. NCVAW is a non-partisan organization founded in 2009 that works to strengthen animal welfare laws in NC. She is a lifelong animal lover and enjoys working with legislators to draft proposed legislation and ordinances to strengthen animal welfare laws in North Carolina.
Kristen, her husband, two boys, and five rescue animals live in a ninety year old historic home in downtown Belmont. They love living in Belmont and enjoy the proximity to the lake, all of the charming towns and cities in Gaston County, and the convenience of being near the airport and Charlotte. Kristen’s husband, Tally, produces films for NASCAR. Their older son attends UNC School of the Arts and their younger son goes to Gaston County public schools.
